In accordance with LOU #7, this competition is to support the hiring of internationally educated nurses and will be restricted to only those applicants who meet the posting requirements and who do not currently reside or have eligibility to work in Canada. Alberta Health Services (AHS) is looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Maternity Unit at the Wetaskiwin Hospital and Care Centre (WHCC) in Wetaskiwin! Wetaskiwin is located 70 km south of Edmonton in the heart of Central Alberta. The city name comes from the Cree word which means “the hills where peace was made”. WHCC is a busy rural delivery site with approximately 350 deliveries per year and 1500 outpatients. As the RN, you will provide care to mothers, infants as well as support family focused care throughout the antenatal, intrapartum, and post-partum experience. You will utilize your excellent nursing skills while positively impacting the patient’s perception of the care received. You will be required to teach patients and families, as well as guide and mentor students and other health professionals. You will be providing support in the operating room during cesarean sections and other procedures. Central Alberta is bordered by the Rocky Mountains on the west and the Saskatchewan border to the east. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Current clinical experience (within the last 12 months) as a Registered Nurse in at least one of the following departments is required: acute care, emergency, intensive care, operating room, obstetrics, and psychiatry. Minimum of 3 years' experience within the last 5 years as a Registered Nurse in more than one of the following departments: acute care, emergency, intensive care, operating room, obstetrics, and psychiatry. A willingness to learn new skills as required. Ability to work shift work and meet the physical demands of the job.

Bachelor degree in nursing. Certification(s)/training in a relevant specialty area including obstetrical nursing education (MoreOB-Alberta Perinatal Health Program), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns (ACoRN), Fetal Health Surveillance Course. Two years within the past five years pediatrics and/or obstetrics experience. Charge nurse experience. Past leadership training/experience.
