Under the direction of the Recreation Therapist and the general supervision of the Manager is an exciting student position to enrich the lives of the residents in Supportive Living by providing support and assistance through recreation activities. This student position performs interventions under the direction of and as delegated by the Recreation Therapist in accordance with established standards and procedures of the Recreation Therapy Department. The Recreational Student under the direction of the Recreational Therapist/Aide will provide and assist in a broad range of individual and group activities that are developed to meet the residents' needs. The student will assist residents in getting ready for community outings when off site. Will work collaboratively with staff, families and volunteers. Will assist residents with toileting and personal care as required when off site. Note Nanton is 70km south of Calgary. As a Therapy Aide, you will be working both independently and as part of the interdisciplinary team where you will contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of rehabilitation services. Your role may include administrative duties such as ordering supplies, booking clients, tracking attendances, equipment inventory and preparing/cleaning the treatment area. Under the direction of a supervising recreation therapist, physiotherapist, occupational therapist, audiologist, or speech language pathologist, you will prepare and/or apply routine interventions, promote patient (client, resident) healthy living, self-care independence and motivate clients to actively participate in assigned therapy protocols or programs. You may assist with client lifts and transfers, positioning, and basic activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) within the context of the therapy program.

Completion of Grade 12.

Good knowledge of written and oral English. Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients/clients, families, visitors and team members. Well-developed time management skills. Ability to handle the physical demands of the position.
