Job Summary

The Ministry of Health is responsible for maintaining an accessible, high quality, affordable system for health service delivery that meets the needs of the citizens of the Province of BC. The Finance and Corporate Services Division supports the Ministry Executive and programs and health authorities. The Billing Integrity Program provides audit services to the Medical Services Plan (MSP) and the Medical Services Commission (the Commission). . The Billing Integrity Program monitors, audits and investigates billing patterns and practices of medical and health care practitioners to detect and deter inappropriate and incorrect billing of MSP claims.

The successful applicant, appointed as an inspector under the Medicare Protection Act, is responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting complex, multiyear audits of medical and health care practitioners, medical and diagnostic facilities, labs and private clinics. The Senior Auditor carries out independent compliance audits to detect and deter abuse of MSP funding, recover ineligible payments made to medical and health care practitioners, and to enforce legislation that supports the sustainability of the MSP.

Job Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA CA, CGA or CMA) in good standing with at least 2 years of related experience. OR
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related field, a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), in good standing, AND at least 3 years of recent, related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and recent, related experience may be considered.

*NOTE - The 6.6% Temporary Market Adjustment (TMA) applies solely to the successful candidate with a Chartered Professional Accountant designation (including CA, CGA, CMA). The TMA will not be available should the successful candidate NOT have a recognized accounting designation.

Recent, related experience means the following:

  • Recent is defined as within the last 3 years.
  • Audit and/or accounting experience, for example experience working with accounting principles, auditing standards, information technology and management auditing.
  • Completing complex analysis of large volumes of raw data.
  • Drafting audit reports to present to internal and/or external stakeholders.


Preference may be given to candidates:

  • With supervisory experience
  • With experience working in the health sector
  • Currently enrolled in the CPA designation program
  • Applicants who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, or Inuit)


Provisos/willingness statements:

  • A valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Willingness to conduct field work which includes travel within the province.
