Job Summary

An exciting role for a forest professional located on the stunning north end of Vancouver Island

The Ministry of Forests is responsible for stewardship of the province’s Crown land and natural resources. Overseeing a land base of 94.8 million hectares, the Ministry makes, supports and advises on stewardship decisions for BC’s land and resources, and delivers services to provide environmental, economic, cultural, and social benefits for all British Columbians.

As a member of the District Stewardship team, the Stewardship Forester provides professional advisory services over a broad program, including resource monitoring, silviculture, forest management planning, timber supply analysis, land-based investment delivery, and forest health.

The North Island - Central Coast Natural Resource District has been continually recognized as a Top 10 Work Unit in the BC Public Service and is home to a team of dedicated public servants tasked with managing diverse forest and natural resource values. Spanning a large geographic area over northern Vancouver Island, the mainland central coast and the many islands in between, the District includes a number of resource-dependent communities and much of the Great Bear Rainforest. This position is located in Port McNeill, an affordable and family-oriented community located on the northern tip of Vancouver Island and gateway to a wealth of awesome recreational activities.


Job Requirements:

  • Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) with Forest Professionals BC (FPBC). Note: immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to immediately transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to FPBC within six (6) months of employment. Under-implementation of the position at an LSO 1A level may be considered, provided the candidate is registered with FPBC and is actively articling/in-training by the time of the offer of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be made.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a natural resource management related field, or equivalent education and experience as recognized by Forest Professionals BC.
  • Demonstrated recent (within the last five (5) years) and relevant experience working in natural resource management.
  • Demonstrated recent (within the last five (5) years) experience in partner engagement, negotiation and/or conflict resolution related to natural resource management.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s Licence or equivalent.

About this Position:
There is currently one (1) permanent, full time position available.
This position is based in Port McNeill and has on-site office requirements.
This location receives a bi-weekly isolation allowance (add to pay).
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
