ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The position would be ideal for an intermediate to senior Corporate Paralegal with prior large firm experience. You will be supporting two lawyers in the firms Trusts/Wills/Estates and Charity Group.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Your duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Handling purchases and sales of businness, both assets and shares
  • Handling complicated reorganizations involving share freezes, roll overs and family trusts
  • Minute book reviews
  • Potential opportunity to gain experience working on real estate and commercial lending matters
  • Communicating directly with clients
  • Organizing and managing files, including managing a Bring Forward system and billing
  • Assisting with special projects including but not limited to data validation, data remediation and digitization
  • Coordinating the return of scanned minute books to lawyers and organization of original records
  • Overseeing annual maintenance and compliance work
  • Coordinating documents and filings required to effect and report corporate changes in required timelines
  • Sending records to storage
  • Conducting due diligence and minute book reviews and preparing reports outlining issues and deficiencies
  • Handling administrative duties such as drafting letters, filing, printing, scanning, and coordingating signatures
  • Ensuring all physical and electronic filing and data entry is organized and updated on a regular basis
  • Delegating tasks to, and coordinating with, other administrative departments
  • Liaising with lawyers, clients, and agents while providing excellent professional service
  • Other duties as required

THE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 1- 3 of experience in Corporate, ideally in large firm setting
  • Paralegal Diploma
  • Strong understanding of relevant legal and business legislation
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite particularyl Word and Excel, and ALF
  • Familiarity with incorporations, annual records maintenance and other standard corporate transactions such as dividends and redemptions under the BC Business Corporations Act
  • Ability to manage many files at once
  • Ability to take initiative and be proactive
  • Highly organized and excellent attention to detail in conjugation with strong communication skills
  • Experience in the area of trusts and estates would be an asset

COMPENSATION

  • $70,000 - $110,000 depending on experience
  • 3 weeks vacation
