  • At a minimum, must have completed the 1st year of the Electrician Apprentice program and currently enrolled in 2nd year of the Electrician Apprenticeship program
  • Must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or ministry-approved equivalent.
  • Completion of the Electrical Pre-Apprenticeship program is considered an asset
  • Good communication skills and must be able to communicate fluently in both written and spoken English.
  • Knowledge of electric circuitry of relay, PC and PLC logic
  • Ability to perform basic wiring work, conduit bending, single phase and control cabinet wiring.
  • Familiar with applicable electric codes.
  • Knowledge of equipment and machines in department e.g. various mills, lathe, various hand tools, crane, measurement tools etc.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Must be flexible in respect to hours of work.

Scope of position:

  • Repair to electrical controls and electro-mechanical equipment under guidance of a Licensed Electrician.
  • Complete work units as specified in the Ontario Apprenticeship Training Standards logbook.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Replace and repair electronic wiring, receptacles, switch boxes, conduits, feeders, cable assemblies, lighting fixtures and other electrical components.
  • Test electrical and electronic equipment and components for continuity, current, voltage and resistance.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain production equipment, which includes electrical, hydraulic, mechanical and pneumatic systems.
  • Repair and replace electric and electronic components such as motors, contractors, relays, timers and any kind of switched, PLC’s light curtains, motor controls, etc.
  • Wire new control panels according to drawings and verbal instructions under consideration of Hydro codes and other applicable standards and regulations.
  • Pass on information, experience and knowledge to other maintenance employees, to ensure effective, non-repetitious problem solving and machine repairs.
  • Inform the Electrician about changes in electrical circuits and update the original diagrams.
  • Work in a cost effective manner and maintain a high standard of quality and excellent workmanship.
  • Open to new systems, which are occasionally established within the department and company.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance programs and keep maintenance records.
  • Meet schedule set by Maintenance Manager.
  • Use different PLC programming devices including software to modify and read logic control programs.
  • Perform other assignments from time to time as managements so directs.

Production Supervisor to the best of his/her ability about unusual things, faulty design, unsafe conditions, missing parts, etc.

    • Adhere to standards and rules described in the Employee Handbook and will conduct oneself in a manner consistent with those practices leading to the safe operation of the division and displaying leadership, concern and a safe work ethic.
  • Perform other duties as required within his/her ability.
  • Observe standards for safe working conditions as outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act as well as rules and regulations outlined in the employee handbook.
  • Responsible for participating in monthly Health & Safety Quiz.
  • Actively and positively support the continued practice of Core Values behaviours
  • Comply and participate with Suggestions and Continuous Improvement program at MSM.
