About This Opportunity

Opportunity Type: Temporary (6-12 months with possibility for Extension)
South Shore Regional Hospital (SSRH) in Bridgewater, NS, is seeking a 0.75-1.0 FTE temporary locum plastic surgeon to join its plastic surgery department. The service currently manages pathology of the hand, breast, head and neck, upper extremity trauma, skin including melanoma, chronic wounds, minor burns, etc. An interest in general reconstruction is essential. Operative and Ambulatory Clinic time is available, as is shared office space with the existing plastic surgeons in the group. Shared expenses will be the responsibility of the candidate to cover overhead and administrative support for the office. Affiliation with Dalhousie University with an option to participate in research and surgical education at the undergraduate and postgraduate level may be possible.

Located in Bridgewater, SSRH has 85 inpatient beds including medical, surgical, intensive care, obstetrics, and mental health units. The modern regional hospital is the cornerstone of Bridgewater’s residents and surrounding community members’ quality of life.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Duties include full scope of practice as a plastic surgeon providing care to patients within the western zone.
The physician will be responsible to the Zone Department Head of Surgery for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice, and will operate within the Medical Staff Bylaws of the Nova Scotia Health Authority.

Expected Hours
  • Part-time 0.75-1.0 FTE

  • Shared Coverage of Emergency and Trauma Referrals

Qualifications
  • Eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
  • Applicants must have a fellowship in Plastic Surgery, FRCS(C), and obtain licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
