As an intern at the Total Fund Risk & Analytics team within Risk Division, you will have an opportunity to apply your financial knowledge, experience, creativity, and problem-solving skills to contribute to the team efforts towards a broad range of activities. With a focus on liquidity risk, you will be gaining exposure to risk reporting, monitoring, modelling, and analyses as well as research and development initiatives that support the strategic objectives of the Total Fund Risk & Analytics team and the Risk Division.

Who you’ll work with

The Risk Division aims to ensure that Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan is sustainable over the long term. It is mandated to enable and govern risk taking to deliver on the strategic objectives of Ontario Teachers. As a key part of the Investment Risk function, the Total Fund Risk & Analytics team is responsible for the risk systems and methodologies, total fund risk assessment and reporting to management and the Board, as well as development of risk analytical tools. The team is working on four major areas: (1) Investment Asset Risk; (2) Liquidity Risk; (3) Portfolio Analytics; and (4) Investment Risk Reporting.

The Liquidity Risk team, where the role will mainly focus, is primarily responsible for developing and maintaining the methodology and tools to measure and govern liquidity risk, so that liquidity risk is appropriately identified, captured, modeled, and monitored. It also develops and performs stress testing to evaluate the resiliency of Ontario Teachers’ liquidity position.

What you’ll do

  • Maintain/automate/enhance existing liquidity risk monitor processes.
  • Support the developments of new analytical capabilities to provide liquidity risk insight.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis in response to liquidity risk-related requests from Risk Division and various investment departments across the organization.
  • Conduct research to keep up to date on latest market/regulatory developments and industry best practices as related to liquidity risk.
  • Work cross-functionally with other team members and departments to develop/enhance analytics tools for investment decision-making

What you’ll need

  • Enrolled in a bachelor’s/master’s level program in Finance/Business/Computer Sciences/Mathematics/Statistics
  • Experience with financial institutions an asset
  • Knowledge of financial markets and liquidity risk a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Working knowledge in Excel, PL/SQL, Power BI and Python
  • Strong Communication skills (oral and written)
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as to perform effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • You should be returning back to your studies after the work term is completed.
