It is acknowledged that Central Okanagan Public Schools operates within the traditional unceded territory of the Okanagan Syilx peoples. The school district enrolls approximately 24,000 students (including over 3000 students who self-identify as having Indigenous ancestry). Central Okanagan Public Schools is located in the Central Okanagan encompassing the communities of Peachland, West Kelowna, Kelowna, Lake Country and Oyama. There are a total of 48 school sites with 32 elementary schools, 8 middle schools, 5 secondary schools and 3 alternate schools.

SIGN LANGUAGE INTERPRETER

These positions will work in a team environment to facilitate language expression and comprehension using American Sign Language, tutor students, adapt teaching materials, compile and update student records, and monitor student behaviour.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Successful completion of Grade 12

Graduate of an accredited interpreter training program

Previous experience interpreting in an educational setting an asset

At least six (6) months experience working with Deaf students with language delays

Strong interpersonal communication skills

Willing to work collaboratively as a member of the IEP (Individual Education Program) team

Consideration will be given to candidates who are also fluent in ASL-French language interpreting

These 10-month permanent positions (27.5hrs / week) offer a wage rate of $31.42 per hour, as well as a comprehensive benefits plan, including extended health and dental care, and participation in Municipal Pension Plan. Successful applicants will be required to complete the District's Health & Safety training and consent to a Criminal Record Check.
