Summary of Duties: Under the direction of the High School Vice Principal and Principal, t he Educational Counsellor/Teacher helps ensure the successful experience of students while at school and the transition of students into life after High School. In doing so, they work with students to address their academic and career development needs. The Educational Counsellor/Teacher provides valuable assistance to students by helping them foster leadership and inclusivity while promoting student welfare. Key Deliverables and Expectations: Communicate tracking of graduation requirements and report cards with students.Assist students in ordering transcripts.Assist the VP in the development of the High School Teacher and Education Assistant timetables.Assist the Principal in obtaining Bursary/Awards for graduates by working with graduates on bursary applications.Assist graduates with college and post-secondary applications.Act as the liaison with the Ts?zil Learning Centre and Post-Secondary Institutions. Work with students to develop and implement an educational counseling plan using modern methods of teaching and mentoring to help ensure their successful experience in school and their transition into life after High School. Prepare students timetables. Collaborate with the Principal and Behaviour Therapist to meet with transferring students and to review student transferring files to help ensure effective and successful transitions. Encourage students associations to foster equal opportunity practices, inclusivity, and student leadership. Facilitate student leadership opportunities such as student council and SOGI representation. Collaborate with relevant stakeholders and school team to conduct group or individual educational counseling sessions, workshops or events that assist students with problems and areas in need. Teach Career Life Education classes, and may be required to teach regular classes. Work with the Work-Experience Coordinator and grant writer to ensure graduating students participate in work placements. Continue to maintain communication and offer supports to students, as needed, beyond graduation. Perform other duties as required. Experience and Attributes: University degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.BC Teacher certificateOutstanding written and verbal communication skills in the English language.Ability to work independently and as an integral member of various teams.Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail and time management skills.Ability to meet deadlines prioritizes assignments, manage multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain confidentiality.Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.Motivated self-starter and with strong interpersonal skills.Highly professional in all aspects of business, presentation and interaction with all stakeholders, clients, and Members.Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check, including the vulnerable sector.
