Clinical Research Coordinator, Department of Psychiatry, Sunnybrook Research Institute Status: Regular Part Time Hours: Part-time (approx. 6 hours/week) - Flexibility required depending on appointments Job Overview The Sunnybrook Research Institute, Department of Psychiatry, affiliated with the University of Toronto, is seeking an energetic and efficient Clinical Research Coordinator to work in the areas of suicide prevention, mood disorders and mental health literacy. This individual will work within the Suicide Prevention Research Collaborative (SPRC) lab. Over two years, this individual is hired to provide 11 sessions of either Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as usual or Harry Potter literature-based CBT over 3 months, as well as one booster session at month four to a total of 50 psychiatric youth outpatients (age 14-19) with mood and/or anxiety disorders at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. https://sunnybrook.ca/research/content/?page=spl-about Harry Potter literature-based CBT (MyOWL): The therapist will cover topics such as risk and protective factors for distress and mental health problems, cognitive distortions, cognitive reframing, fear hierarchies, behavioural activation and core beliefs while reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. (https://www.myowl.org) CBT as usual will utilize ‘Mind over Mood’ and/or the ‘Anxiety and Phobia Workbook’ according to the primary diagnosis. The successful candidate will have: A master’s degree in social work, with preference given to individuals with at least 2 years of CBT clinical experience and/or previous experience in research in the area of psychology and/or psychiatry. Experience facilitating sessions using the Mind over Mood and Anxiety and Phobia Workbook is required. Experience conducting clinical trials is highly desired. Experience conducting standardized semi-structured interviews and questionnaires is required. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Experience following study protocol and ethics regulations is required. Excellent literacy skills in analyzing texts and an interest in English literature is an asset. Responsibilities The successful candidate will be expected to: Conduct either 12 sessions of CBT as usual to 25 youth psychiatric outpatients and 12 sessions of Harry Potter CBT to 25 youth psychiatric outpatients (1:1 randomization) over 2 years. Liaise with investigators and study staff to ensure the consistency and quality of all study procedures. Manage the data collection and study fidelity through recordings and checklists. Assist in interpreting results and preparing material for presentation and publications. Work independently as well as within a collaborative environment. Assist with the day-to-day operations of this ongoing study. Perform other duties as assigned.
