Kitikmeot School Operations invites applications for the following position: Principal

The status of this position is: TERM

The position is 1.0 PY (full-time position).

The Nunavut Department of Education is committed to supporting staff development through well-designed professional learning opportunities. Nunavut schools are currently focused on improving literacy outcomes for all students and ensuring students’ learning experiences are culturally relevant and respectful.

Located in the picturesque hamlet of Kugaaruk, Arviligruaq Ilinniarvik School serves the community of Kugaaruk. The school has a population of approximately 381 students in a K-12 setting with a staff of 45. The school and community are steeped in a rich history of Inuit culture.

Required qualifications:

Bachelor of Education degree

Teaching or principal certification acceptable for Nunavut certification

Minimum of 3 years school leadership experience

Desired qualifications:

Graduate training in education

Evidence in leading effective teaching practice in the area of literacy

Experience in the development and promotion of professional learning communities

Experience in leading staff formative assessment protocols

Experience in using data analysis to support student learning

Successful northern/cross-cultural teaching experience

Computer knowledge and experience with administrative software

Experience in dealing with site-based management of school finances

Evidence of support and enhancement of bilingual school programming

Evidence/experience building positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, stakeholders

Knowledge and skills in instructional leadership

Knowledge and skills in strategic planning

Knowledge, skills and experience in school improvement

Please note: Subsidized housing is available but sharing may be required.

The salary for certified teachers ranges from $83,643 prorated/annum. to $131,151 prorated/annum. The Principal administrative allowance is currently $20,265.

The Northern Allowance for Kugaaruk is $26,639 prorated/annum.
