Bella Bella Community School Society is looking for a compassionate and dynamic School Counsellor . Knowledge and experience with aboriginal students is an asset, as are musical talents. The successful applicant needs to be focused on improving student wellbeing, and be a positive member our team.

Desired Abilities, Qualifications and Experience :

Master’s degree, recognized by the BC Teachers Regulatory Branch, in counselling psychology or a related discipline with a focus on behaviour disorders and counselling

Knowledge of the Ministry of Education current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures

Experience working with behaviour disorders in children and adolescents

Knowledge and experience in administration of suicide risk assessments

Knowledge and understanding of the counselling role, willingness to collaborate in developing IEPs

Experience teaching social skills programs to student with a wide range of abilities

Interest in facilitating peer counselling skills amongst students

Demonstrated capabilities in providing effective student, family and group counselling services

Be committed to working collaboratively in a team setting with students, staff, administration, parents and community partners

Passionate about developing a music program

Bella Bella Community School (BBCS) offers Nursery to Grade 12 to both Heiltsuk and non-Heiltsuk students and is accredited as a BC Ministry of Education Independent School and is certified with the First Nations School Association.

Bella Bella is located in the heart of the Heiltsuk Nation and the Great Bear Rainforest! Positions at this school will appeal to individuals who have a strong interest in teaching First Nations students, would appreciate the opportunity to embrace Heiltsuk Culture, enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, boating and fishing and are comfortable living on the stunning Central Coast of BC.

Bella Bella is reached by regular Pacific Coastal air service from Vancouver or by BC Ferries from Port Hardy or Prince Rupert.
