Mental Health Therapist - Crisis Response Team

As a casual member of the multi-disciplinary team, reporting to the Manager, Vegreville Community Addiction and Mental Health, you will provide emergent intervention, screening, risk and mental health assessment, provisional diagnostic and treatment planning services to adults with acute, and chronic psychiatric disorders in a relief role. Service is primarily provided to adult clients, but you may on occasion respond to clients’ needs of all age groups with addiction and psychiatric disorders (i.e., children, adolescents, adults). You would be expected to deliver direct care including screening, assessment, and treatment, utilizing a variety of treatment modalities. You need to be a self-directed, highly motivated individual with exceptional leadership, organizational, and problem solving skills that is able to manage change. This position may be required to cover service delivery in the Two Hills and Lamont areas as well. This position also offers the potential to work as part of a new Crisis Response Team (CRT) which would cover mental health consultation in local emergency departments Friday evenings and Saturdays and Sundays. As such a strong working knowledge of the Alberta Mental Health Act is required.

As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Ability to work in a team and independently. Experience with mental health screening and crisis intervention either in a centralized screening/intake setting or delivering mental health consultative services in emergency departments. 2 years' experience working in a community mental health setting. A strong understanding of mental health legislation.

Training in therapy modalities including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy etc. Experience/working knowledge of connect care, experience with service delivery in rural settings, flexibility with schedule considered assets.
