The Respiratory Therapist II, working primarily in the OR, provides leadership and expertise in the field of Respiratory Therapy and will work collaboratively with the operating room team to perform advanced respiratory procedures (such as airway management, laryngoscopy, endotracheal intubation, central venous line insertion, drug preparation, peripheral venous cannulation, blood salvaging, arterial line insertion, and arterial blood gas sampling & analysis) for patients requiring/under anesthesia in neonatal, pediatric, & adult populations. You will also be responsible for the daily set-up and verification of anesthetic machines and equipment. You will actively participate in the education of patients, families, students, staff and physicians; contribute to department and/or service area process improvement; maintain a professional and accountable practice; advocate professionally and effectively for patients using the principles of patient and family centered care; and provide technical support for Respiratory Therapy equipment. All Respiratory Therapist positions at Chinook Regional Hospital are expected to be able to work in all areas the employee is orientated, and that Cardio-Respiratory Services clinically supports, if required. As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will coordinate, monitor and assess clinical services in your assigned area. You will act as a clinical resource for daily operations, coordinating the work of therapy assessment and treatment in your service area, and assist in the development of clinical protocols. You will develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor the progress of patients (clients, residents) receiving advanced respiratory treatment. You will identify new equipment requirements, and establish and maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials for your area. You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including but not limited to operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance. You will participate in interprofessional patient, client or resident rounds, conferences and meetings where applicable.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Current BCLS-HCP. A minimum of 2 years of Registered Respiratory Therapist experience with recent operating room, acute care or critical care experience. Ability to perform the following physical requirements: being on one's feet for extended periods (including walking/standing), exposure to infectious diseases, and hazardous situations for which they are trained; being able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients; be able to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment up to 20 lbs.

Preceptor experience with respiratory therapy students. Relevant Degree. Previous experience working as a RRT in an OR environment. Competency in performing adult Intubation & Arterial Line Insertion. Completion of Anesthesia Assistant training program. Current ACLS, NRP, and PALS certification.
