BC Corrections helps keep British Columbians safe by managing adults who are in custody or under community supervision. As corrections professionals, we provide safe and secure custody of adults in our care and deliver programs that promote public safety and reduce reoffending.

The Correctional Instructor, Horticulture, trains and supervises residents and staff in the technical aspects of horticulture and the safe use of all equipment, manages the landscaping needs at NCC by assessing, directing and managing a work crew while ensuring safety and security measures are maintained. The Correctional Instructor, Horticulture, will be required to develop meaningful community relationships inclusive of providing certification opportunities and skills-based training assisting residents in attaining gainful employment. This position may be required to work closely and partner with other Instructors at NCC in development of short and longer term projects.

Job Requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • English 12 with a final grade of 70% or equivalent.
  • Experience in the use and repair of tools and equipment relevant to the program being instructed.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
  • Valid Occupational First Aid (OFA 1) as endorsed by WorkSafe BC.


Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Two (2) years experience as a Correctional Officer or equivalent.
  • Experience in instructing adult learners and organizing the work of others.
  • Experience in an industrial or vocational setting.
  • Experience with computer and communication technology.
  • WHMIS certified.
  • Valid Class 4 BC Driver’s License.
