The Nurse Practitioner (NP) for the Hematology service of McMaster Children’s Hospital will provide leadership and promote excellence in comprehensive care of patients with a range of hematological diagnoses ranging from mild to more acute and chronic acquired or inherited conditions. The Hematology Nurse Practitioner will engage in family-centered and holistic nursing care through expert clinical practice, education, consultation and research. The NP will support the clinical activity of the hematology service and the associated patient care and interventions with a focus on care for Hematology patients. The NP will collaborate with the interdisciplinary team and will be responsible for: providing direct patient care, coordination of care including transfusion therapy, discharge planning, education for patient, family and their communities, and the coordination of related community and other resources for this patient population. The NP will also be responsible to mentor nursing and other health professional students as appropriate, and participate in continuing education activities to integrate the role of the NP in the program and academic settings. This includes initiating, participating, and/or leading programs, presentations, publications, evaluations, research initiatives and other system changes to continue the enhancement of interdisciplinary care teams.
