Manager, Data Governance, Brampton, ON

As a key member of the Data Governance team at Loblaw Companies Ltd, the Manager, Data Governance is responsible for supporting data governance and data advisory activities for Loblaw Companies Ltd. In this role, you will provide data advisory and governance expertise to projects as well as day-to-day operations ensuring that data is treated as a corporate asset. The Manager will work with business partners, data stewards as well as technology teams to ensure a high level of data quality with the objective of improving operations and mitigating risk. This role will also enable the cataloging of metadata and ensure proper data access controls are in place including retention and archiving activities.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the development and maturation of internal, business units, and Enterprise Data Governance metrics & KPI reporting. Partner with business to report progress and trends through dedicated sessions and working groups
  • Manage Data Governance operational queues and intakes, maintaining SLAs
  • Automate data quality management with technology and embed data quality controls in key processes. Provide guidance on critical data quality issues and identify root cause and remediation plan
  • Implement data governance tools to enhance metadata and data quality capabilities. Develop data policies, definitions, classifications, and rules with partners to meet metadata needs
  • Work with partners to address data access risk and ensure proper controls for critical data elements
  • Apply and promote data governance standard methodologies for Loblaw Companies Ltd projects and processes. Educate partners on the data governance model to improve data management. Evolve the function based on a defined roadmap
  • Lead a team of hard-working individuals, foster career growth and skill development
  • Support the cultural shift towards data as a strategic asset and competitive differentiator. Demonstrate Loblaw CORE values to deliver results

What You Bring:

  • Progressive experience in data management, data governance, process improvement, or analytics working with multi-functional / matrix project teams;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Superb communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to foster and develop relationships across the organization;
  • A great teammate who is also able to work independently in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to work in an agile environment which requires prioritization of individual duties to align with department priorities.
  • Experience with productivity tools such as Office365, MS Teams, Confluence, JIRA, and Slack;
  • Proficient in SQL and Python, an experienced user.
  • Experience with data governance tools such as Informatica Data Quality, Axon, and EDC;
  • Post-Secondary education in Business, Information Technology Management, Engineering, Science, or Computer Science.
