Based on the vision and mission of the Department of Social Services (DSS), the Family Support Worker will offer support to children and families attending the Early On centers in Prescott and Russell.

The incumbent is responsible for welcoming and accompanying diverse families who are experiencing personal, social, financial or other social difficulties.

The incubent is also responsible for defining and assessing people's needs with respect and empathy, promoting the delivery of DSS services or those of other service providers, and setting short-term objectives with a person-centred approach, with the aim of improving their well-being and achieving stability.

Requested skills

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in social work or psychology and be a member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in social work with a diverse population with social issues would be an asset.
  • Excellent conflict resolution and interpersonal skills. Training in conflict and crisis management, including applied training in suicide intervention techniques (ASIST).
  • In-depth knowledge of a wide range of community services for all ages and needs.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and database programs.
  • Ability to communicate easily in French and English (orally and in writing).
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle.

A criminal record check must be provided upon hiring only (dated no longer than three months prior to the date when it has been requested) and is a condition of employment.
