JOB: High School Teacher

The Opportunity:

Our client based in Chase, BC is currently looking for a High School Teacher, who will contribute to our mission of providing culturally relevant and empowering education services that support the lifelong learning and personal growth of Neskonlith children and adults. The High School Teacher will report to the Principal and is responsible for delivering high-quality education to students in grades 8 to 12, fostering cultural awareness and respect for Secwepemc traditions, histories, and values.

A day in the life of a High School Teacher

As the High School Teacher, you will play a vital role in providing a well-rounded education that embraces the richness of Secwepemc culture while preparing students for a globalized world.

As the High School Teacher, you will:

Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that promote cultural awareness, with a specific focus on the Secwepemc community.

Teach various subjects, including but not limited to English, mathematics, science, social studies, and cultural studies, incorporating Indigenous perspectives and contributions.

Assess and evaluate student performance through assignments, projects, tests, and examinations, providing timely feedback to students and parents/guardians.

Develop individualized learning plans for students with diverse abilities and learning styles, taking into consideration the unique needs of Indigenous students.

Promote active student participation through discussions, group activities, and hands-on learning experiences that incorporate Indigenous knowledge and traditions.

Encourage critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills among students.

Collaborate with colleagues and school staff to develop interdisciplinary projects and initiatives.

Communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and other stakeholders to provide updates on student progress, challenges, and achievements.

Foster a safe and supportive classroom environment by encouraging and empowering each student to meet their educational, emotional, and personal growth potential.

Stay up to date with the latest educational research, teaching methodologies, and cultural developments.

Other duties as assigned.

A little about you:

You hold a Bachelor's degree in education. You may have a master’s degree, specialization, or additional training in cultural studies or Indigenous education.

You are an experienced education at the high school level, preferably in a multicultural or diverse community.

You possess a understanding and appreciation of different cultures; particularly Indigenous communities, their traditions, histories, and values.

You are an excellent communicator with an uncanny ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with children, parents, and staff.

You are organized and possess strong time management skills.

You are adaptable, flexible, and motivated to meet the diverse needs of students.
