Senior Medical Lab Technologist - Hematology - Regular Full-time 2024-7916

Summary of Duties:

 

The Senior Technologist will be responsible for providing technical, scientific, educational and supportive service to both internal and external users. In collaboration with management and supervisors the Senior Technologist will also be responsible for but not limited to the following:


Contributing to departmental processes such as budget, performance assessments, interviews, and staff scheduling. Organizing workflow and delegating responsibilities as required. Communicating with internal/external organizations. Generating daily, weekly and monthly reports. Ensuring effective communication is maintained with all levels of medical, technical staff, and management regarding technical issues as applicable. Supporting and assisting with staff activities to enhance safe practice and quality improvement, and team building in the lab. Providing routine and special haematology education to medical laboratory technologist and assistant students, medical residents, and other trainees. Providing leadership through mentorship and sharing of expertise. 
 

Qualifications and Skills:

 

•    Current CMLTO registration in good standing as a general Medical Laboratory Technologist is required. 
•    ART certification or BSc MLS or equivalent preferred. 
•    Five (5) years recent Haematology experience including advanced morphology skills required, experience in a hospital setting required. 
•    Demonstrated sound knowledge base in Haematology. 
•    Demonstrated ability with laboratory automation. 
•    Demonstrated proficiency with LIS and middleware. 
•    Demonstrated ability in operating and troubleshooting highly complex analyzers, and sound knowledge of relevant analytical techniques. 
•    Must have sound knowledge of Quality Control (QC) Westgard rules and strong ability to use QC to troubleshoot testing issues. 
•    Demonstrated leadership skills and coaching skills with the ability to foster and support in a team environment. 
•    Ability to interact effectively and professional with individuals at all levels. 
•    Knowledge of adult education principles. 
•    Knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement and Total Quality Management techniques required. Knowledge of IQMH and Accreditation Canada Diagnostics.
•    Demonstrated initiative, effective problem solving, conflict resolution skills, critical thinking, and decision-making practices. 
•    Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. 
•    Demonstrated ability to write standard operating procedures. 
•    Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Power Point experience is required. 
•    Strong time-management, organizational skills, and the ability to work in a large team environment.
